Readings for Sunday, March 21, 2010 First Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21 The Psalm: 32 Second Reading: Philippians 3:4b-14 Gospel: John 12:1-8 Adult Christian Education (ACE) On March 21, 2010, we will continue with discussion of the lessons for the day. No preparation is required other than reading the lessons listed above. Walton Peabody will lead the discussion. Lenten Study on Tuesday Nights During Lent We will continue the Lenten Evening Prayer at 5:30 p.m., followed by a simple pot-luck meal from 5:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. after which we will have “Off-the-Wall Theology” discussing the controversial book by Lloyd Geering, Coming Back to Earth: From Gods, to God, to Gaia. The study discussion will be from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. On March 28, we complete our discussion of this book. Beginning Thursday Nights after Easter Keep your eyes and ears open for the start of A Fifth Theology to begin Thursday the second week of Easter at 6:00 p.m. at Shenanigan’s Irish Pub. (Wherever there are 4 Episcopalians, you will always find a fifth.) Anglican Rosary The Piecemakers are praying the Anglican Rosary at 12:15 each Wednesday during Lent. All are invited to participate. It requires nothing but your presence and thirty minutes. Men’s Bible Study The Men’s Bible Study meets Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Please bring any version of the Bible you want to use. We will be focusing on Philippians next week. Albert+ Easter Lilies Fill the church with Easter joy! There are several ways you may donate pots of lilies to help fill the church with joy on Easter morning. You may put your name and instructions on the sign-up sheet in the entrance hall (PLEASE PRINT!!), or TYPE your information on one of the attached Word or PDF forms and send it as an e-mail attachment addressed to robertaniles@netscape.net. You may put your donation check for $15 per plant into the collection plate written to Saint Elizabeth’s and designated for Easter Lilies. Some of the flowers will be used to create floral arrangements and others will be displayed in their pots. All of the plants will be available for you to take home on the Sunday after Easter, some with their flowers and some without, but all of them may be planted in your garden to bloom next spring. Roberta Niles Sparkle Day We will have our semi-annual Sparkle day on Saturday, March 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. If you can help with cleaning, organizing, painting, trimming, or raking your talents are needed. Soft drinks will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch, if desired. A sign-up sheet will be in the foyer. Wendel Long Maundy Thursday Put April 1st, Maundy Thursday on your calendars, not only for the Service of Maundy Thursday, but for the covered dish supper preceding the service. We will eat at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a dish with a Mediterranean theme. We do not want this to be intimidating; think lamb, chicken, lentils, grapes, flat bread, goat cheese, eggplant. Think Greek, Middle-Eastern, Italian. You may have a favorite, and recipes will also be available on the table in the Parish Hall starting this Sunday. Bring your favorite bottle of wine. Water and coffee will also be available. Martha Roberts Community Helping Place Food Pantry The food pantry needs for this week are jelly, plain oatmeal and pasta sauce. Thank you for your support. Suzanne Ryerson Hamp Mill Road Trash Pick-Up The next date for trash pick-up will be April 3, at 10:00 a.m. Refreshments will be provided afterwards. Also, please mark you calendars for June 26 for the second trash pick up date for this year. Cathy McLendon UTO Keep saving your blessing coins. The first in-gathering of coins for 2010 is May 23. If you don’t already have a coin box they are available on the upstairs table. Suzanne Ryerson Side by Side is Coming! The volunteer forms are now available for the April 24th day of in-service! After completion of the form you may place it in my church mailbox in the office and I will deliver the completed forms to the steering committee. The deadline for volunteers is April 4th. Please pick up a Children’s Food Drive List on the Side by Side table to begin collecting the items on the list. These goods will be given to the Community Helping Place for their Summer Food Program for school children in Lumpkin County. A big THANKS to everyone for participating in the African team Ministries Craft sale. We collected $798!!! I know the money will be joyfully received! Teresa Hughes ECW Spring Retreat “Will the Real Paul Stand Up?” is the title of the ECW Spring Retreat, led by the Reverend Don Harrison of Saint Anthony’s, Winder and chaplain at Brenau College. This wonderful weekend at Camp Mikell, April 30-May2, 2010, is for all women. Bring your daughter or sister and expect a treat from Reverend Harrison, together with good food, fun and fellowship. Online registration is available through the diocese at www.epsicopalatlanta.org. Ginny Ingram Cathedral Book Sale – Notice: Date Change! The date for the book sale has changed to May 2; this date change will give us more time to select books, gifts and music when the Cathedral Book Store comes to us. The traveling bookstore will be available for us in the Parish Hall following the day’s service. The ECW will host the sale with our part of the proceeds benefiting St. Elizabeth’s and the work we do in the community. Catalogs will be available in the Parish Hall along with a sheet to pre-order. Pre-orders must be made by April 18. Ginny Ingram A Taste of the Mountains A Taste of the Mountains will be held Thursday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lumpkin County High School. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children 5-12, under 5 are free. Proceeds benefit Lumpkin Family Connection. Call 706-265-8389 for more information. Annual Camping Trip The annual Saint Elizabeth’s Camping trip will be June 18-20 at the Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth, GA (about 25 miles north of Ellijay on Highway 52).
